CELEBRATIONS & COOKOUTS  

 

Traditions and celebrations were important in Tamil culture because that is what has, and continues to, unify the community as a whole. Today in Canada a community tradition of making a huge pot of Kool (seafood stew) has been brought from Sri Lanka. Rajeswary has vivid memories of her friends and family meeting once a year in Sri Lanka to cook it together and share it with the neighbours as well. Now that her friends and family have migrated to Canada it is still tradition to gather at a local park and make Kool together. Traditions are more important now because the younger generation are a part of it and they are expected to carry this tradition on for years to come.
