European Influence

It is a very well known fact that European Influence had a huge impact in shaping South Asian culture to be where it is today, whether welcomed or not.

Many foods were moved and introduced to South India because of the European colonization. They brought in nuts, tapioca, and corn.

In 1498 AD the portuguese began to have a presence in Kerala.

In 1650 AD the Dutch, French and British Influence increased but by that time 20 000 Portugese had settled in Begnal (and surrounding) influencing their local practice. In the time that they dominated they translated several Indian words for new food items that they had encountered, which were later translated into English. They were also active in the transfer of exotic plants from Mexico and South America for commercial purposes. Lastly their presence did effect the style of cuisine in that area (especially Goan).
